3. Camp layout and amenities
The Free Market is held in a big open field, divided into sections so you'll know where to sleep, eat, and work. The setup is simple and designed to make sure everyone has space to relax and have fun during the event.
Most people will stay in shared tents, with about 8–12 participants in each one. Tents are separated by gender, but you don't have to be in the same tent as your guild unless you specifically request it. If you'd rather have more privacy or comfort, you’re welcome to bring your own tent and sleeping gear. Just remember to pack a sleeping bag that can handle changing weather, since this is an outdoor event.
A word of caution: Both TSA (US Transportation Security Administration) and CATSA (Canadian Air Transport Security Authority) prohibit tent spikes in carry on baggage. You must check it.
"Any sharp objects in checked baggage should be sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury to baggage handlers and inspectors." — TSA.gov "What Can I Bring?", Accessed 26 September 2025
There's also a dedicated eating area that works as the central hangout spot. Meals will be provided here, and it's a good place to sit down, recharge, and meet people outside your tent or guild. We want it to feel like the community hub of the camp.
Because everything takes place outdoors, plan for the elements. Bring layers, rain protection, and anything you’ll need to stay comfortable no matter what the weather does. The open field gives us plenty of room for events, workshops, and just hanging out, but it also means you’ll want to come prepared.
You should prepared to bring clothes for 4 days (causal), some toiletries, your laptop and its charger, your phone (make sure it can roam without expensive fees or get an E-sim that will work in Canada), a rain jacket, towels, swimming gear, and outdoor shoes.
