4. Guilds
Each guild functions like a miniature startup. The goal is to maximize your guild's resources. Guilds can merge, collaborate, or compete depending on their strategy. Think carefully about what your guild's niche will be: will you focus on hardware, software, tutorials, or entertainment? Each choice has pros and cons, and interacting with other guilds creates opportunities for trade, collaboration, or rivalry.
During the 2–3 months leading up to the hackathon, your guild has time to earn extra fake dollars, plan your projects, and build reputation. Joining the show and tells gives a small bonus, completing mini-challenges tests your skills, and selling creations strengthens your guild's economy.
Guilds can also negotiate trades with others. For example, you could offer 3D prints in exchange for PCBs, or provide soldering tutorials in exchange for help with software.
